Controlling Multiple UAVs
Subcontract to AFRL/MNGN from OSD/DDR&E
Air Force collaborators have developed and built a multi vehicle
simulation and vehicle-in-the-loop testbed for the Low Cost Autonomous
Attack System (LOCAAS), and recently extended the testbed to
incorporate cooperative control and human-in-the-loop capabilities. We
are responsible for developing and evaluating control strategies and
interfaces to allow human operators to effectively control multiple
UAVs. Experiments will involve both human-in-the-loop testing and
Monte Carlo studies using simulated human operators. Scientific issues
include controlling systems with adjustable autonomy, directing
attention in dynamic control tasks, and identifying effective ways to
accommodate the USAF's eyes-on-target requirements.
