Temple of Horus

This is a hypothetical Egyptian temple, which was built under the artistic direction of Dr. Lynn Holden (an Egyptologist) in 1993. It was shown at the Guggenheim in 1994 in an exhibit of artwork employing new technology. Since then, it has been improved upon. Most recently, Jason Yates rebuilt the VRML version, making it light and efficient.

To view the VRML version you need to install a VRML plug-in for your web browser. (Try either Cosmo or Cortona.) Simply click on the image to the left or download the whole thing as a ZIP file.) The Temple of Horus is open source and freely available for non-commercial purposes.

The temple is now avilable in Unreal Tournament format! To view it, get and install Unreal Tournament, copy DM-TempleOfHorus.unr into the c:/UnrealTournament/Maps directory and copy Horus_textures.utx into the C:/UnrealTournament/Textures directory. Start the game and select DM-TempleOfHorus from the "Death Match" menu. Many thanks to Colin Lauver who created this from the VRML version. The CaveUT page shows part of the temple in the Earth Theater at the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh.
